Wood:
Soft pine and hardwood shapes are used, as well as hardwood turnings.
Since birds also like natural wood, we incorporate both hard and soft
tree wood into some of our toys. Tree wood is harvested from
undeveloped areas that are unsprayed and far away from harmful traffic
fumes. The wood the clean and kiln dried before use. All
the wood we use is bird-safe.
Color:
All our toys are brilliantly
colored and well dyed, using only FDA approved food coloring.
No flavorings are used and no scents are added. We adhere to
very strict policies when dyeing wood and change the contents of our
dye buckets frequently. Dyeing is done in an outdoor screened
area and wood is left to dry in the sunshine for several days before
use.
Stringing
Material: Supreme™
cotton rope (short fiber cotton rope which easily pulls apart to
prevent tangling); cotton rope (thinner unpolished cotton with a lower
fiber count to prevent tangling); jute rope; natural, oil-free sisal
rope; leather lace and Paulie™ Rope. Paulie™ Rope is a non-toxic poly rope which birds love to chew.
This rope has been designed and manufactured under stringent
conditions specifically for the making of
parrot toys. It has been in use since 1994 with no reports of
injury.
Hardware:
All hardware and fasteners used are Stainless Steel, with the
exception of our large pear links and welded o-rings (both
nickel plate). All
o-rings used in toys in our conure category, grey category and macaw
category are welded closed by us for the safety of your parrot!
Parrot toys with Unwelded o-rings can be a safety hazard! We
also do not use any keyrings in the making of our toys.
Chain:
All chain is closed welded
nickel plate or stainless steel and appropriately sized for each category of parrot.
Wire:
All wire is Stainless Steel and
appropriately sized for each category of parrot. All end loops
are large enough to prevent the catching of toes and are securely
closed. All ring toys are welded closed with no dangerous
interlocking loops or twists.
Leather:
All leather products are vegetable tanned and formaldehyde-free.
Plastic
Toy Parts: Plastic toy
parts are included in some toys and are appropriately sized for each
category of parrot. We DO NOT use any vinyl or rubber parts in
the making of our toys. While they are used by a number of
manufacturers, they are not safe for birds. While most plastic toy parts are durable and
have a longer lifespan than wood, this may not hold true for
Cockatoos. Even the smaller Cockatoos are capable of destroying
the toughest plastic parts as quickly as wood turnings. For the
best value, please choose toys that incorporate a variety of toy
components.
Miscellaneous:
Hawaiian cotton fabric, lead free bells, plastic chain, acrylic beads,
pvc and other quality components.
While we have tried to do
our best to eliminate any safety hazards from our toys and to use the
safest materials available, please note that it is up to you to
supervise your parrot's play and inspect all toys DAILY!
